Well the new year is finally here. It is the time of year that always inspires everyone to reflect and figure out ways to improve. People make a lot of personal resolutions. But, what about making a resolution of improving your pool game? The “New Year” is a perfect time to make goals to be a better pool player!
There’s nothing wrong with setting goals. You must realize that you don’t become a different player overnight. Therefore, it is important to set goals that are realistic and obtainable. You also must set a plan to obtain the goals you set. Think about it. No one ever said “I’m going to lose weight” and not change anything. Generally, the goal is to lose weight. The plan is to exercise more and eat better. Pool players should think the same way and set a plan to improve their pool skills.
Liz Ford recently wrote an article for PoolDawg.com titled, “New Year, New You: 5 Resolutions Every Pool Player needs to make“. It is a good read. These goals are “big picture” goals that can help take your game to another level. Her recommended 5 resolutions are:
Take the time to read Ms Ford’s article. The phrase, “New Year – New Player,” isn’t actually accurate. “New Year – Better Player” more accurately reflects what actually happens when you set goals to improve your game.

David Buchulta, of D&D Cue Repair, will be setup as a vendor at our 2018 ACS Florida State Championships.
D&D Cue Repair will offer cue repair and billiards sales during the tournament. David does everything for cue repairs from tips, ferrules, shaft taper change, shaft clean and seal, and wraps in leather or linen. Previous players have found his services to be superior and look forward to having David work on their cues.
“I have all work on my cue done at the ACS Florida State Championships,” Jeff Brooks from Sarasota Pool League said, “David is the only person I have work on my cues. I even purchased my Predator shaft from D&D.”
The 2018 ACS Florida State Championships is scheduled for July 26 -29, 2018 and will be held at the Ramada – Sarasota. Players will find D&D Cue Repair at the main entry to the tournament.

Having a break shot that makes a ball and provides you an opportunity to make a ball afterward is vital in having the advantage to a rack. Dr Dave provides technique advice that will make you more consistent with your breaks.
One of the most important things in winning an 8-Ball game is choosing between stripes and solids. It takes a little skill and thought to know what set of balls will give you the best opportunity to win. This video provides ball selection strategies for multiple scenarios.

Sarasota Pool League held its first annual Turkey Shoot Pool Tournament on November 26th at the Fraternal Order of Eagles – AERIE #4424. This 8-Ball event used a race to two double elimination format. The Turkey Shoot champion wins cash prize and singles entry into the 8-Ball event at the Sunshine State ACS Florida State Championships. Plus, it featured an opportunity for players to earn $100 for three consecutive ERO’s.
Thirty-seven players from Sarasota Pool League competed in the event. Mike DeStefano, from The Hustlers, fought through the field to face Jeremiah Burns, from PrimeTime, for the coveted catbird seat. The match went three games with DeStefano being the victor. Larry Wheeler, from The Hustlers, worked through the losers side of the board and defeated Burns to face his teammate in the championship round. DeStefano won the tournament and the singles entry into the 8-Ball event at the 2018 Sunshine State ACS Florida State Championships.
There were multiple ERO’s made throughout the tournament. No player was able to make three consecutive ERO’s.

The seventh stop on the 2013-2014 Pure X Cues All American Tour stop – presented by the American CueSports Alliance (ACS) – was showcased in the Snowbird Open #6 – at Q’s Sports Bar & Girl in Port Charlotte, FL – on Saturday, November 16. The $357-added, handicapped [Masters racing to 6/ Open racing to 4] 8-ball tourney on 7-foot Valley bar boxes drew 20 players.
The winner’s-side semifinals found Albert Baker [Master] (Port Charlotte, FL) defeating Odell Hosler (Port Charlotte, FL) 6-2, and Romadon Nichols (North Port, FL) losing to Bill Bloom (Sarasota, FL) 4-3.
On the one-loss side Will Smith of Fort Myers, FL was defeated by Steven Richmond [Master] (Fort Myers, FL) 6-0. In addition, Jake Neeley (Fort Myers, FL) lost to Kym Dyer [Master] (Venice, CA) 6-3. Romadon Nichols found himself on the winning side of the next match against [Master] Stephen Richmond 4-3, while [Master] Kym Dyer went on to defeat Odell Hosler 6-2. Nichols won the tough match 4-3 against [Master] Kym Dyer to compete for the one-loss finals.
Back on the winner’s-side [Master] Albert Baker was defeated by Bill Bloom 4-5, meaning Bloom took down the winner’s-side honors and would have to be beaten twice by the one-loss contender. The one-loss side finals pitted Romadon Nichols against [Master] Albert Baker which resulted in a 4-2 victory for Nichols and the opportunity to defeat Bloom twice for the title. The finals were controlled once again by the unstoppable Bloom in a first-match win of 4-2 to take first place honors!
By virtue of Bill Bloom also being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free 9-Ball singles entry into the 2014 Universal Cues ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS. Stuart, FL (Oct. 19, 2013) –For the 5th stop on the 2013-2014 PureX All American Tour, the ACS added on a stop from Florida’s Flamingo Billiards Tour. This largest and longest event for the Flamingo Billiards Tour turned out a record-breaking fifty women on Saturday at the FBT’s 5th Annual “Cues for Cure” breast cancer fundraiser at Amy’s Billiards in Stuart, Florida! A huge “THANK YOU” to all of the players, spectators and sponsors who supported this event, which benefitted the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
With so many players, this one-day event was a true test of endurance. Despite having to shoot into the wee hours of the morning, the players remained patient yet persistent. Ultimately, however, experience and determination paid off. About an hour before sunrise Jeannie Seaver won her fourth event of the year. Seaver, whose stroke only got better the closer to it got to daylight, defeated last year’s winner of the “Cues for the Cure” event, Jennifer Page, who shot well throughout the day but couldn’t keep up with Seaver, who barely missed more than two shots the entire final match.
Seaver eliminated newcomer Jessica Karamia Human and Crystal McComick in the final single elimination board. Page defeated Cassidy Mulligan and Vanessa Seaver to make it to the final match. Seaver also takes the 2013 FBT Champion title again this year.
More than half the players were playing in support of or in memory of a loved one or friend who had breast cancer or some other form of cancer. Players and spectators participated in the raffle and other games to raise money for the cause. Darlyne Petrovit won the jar of gummy bears with the closest guestimate of the number of candies in the jar without going over. Cathy Sparling won the jar of M&M’s. Other prizes included cues, cue cases, pool lessons, gift baskets and pink ribbon teddy bears.
